2020 Show Recap

Despite the many challenges and difficulties of 2020, AAF had a fantastic show season, adding many new horses and riders to the team!

We started off 2020 in Ocala, FL, and returned to kick off Area V at Meadow Creek Horse Park in March - while onsite at this event we started getting news of USEA and USEF shut downs, state and local shut downs, and other COVID restrictions.

Back home we were unsure of how long we would be "on break." Instead of resting, we embraced the new flexibility offered by working from home and the safety of outdoor activities, and got in lots of additional training and practice.

By the time eventing returned in June for Feather Creek, we had several new horses and riders interested in the sport and brought seven horses to this event. Later that month we also attended Texas Rose Horse Park.

We traveled all the way to Chattahoochee Hills in Georgia in July, River Glen in New Market, TN in August - returned to Meadow Creek in September, Windermere Run in October, and we ended the season strong back at Texas Rose in November.
Season highlights included:
  • New eventer, Jennifer Brown & Mr. Hughes, mutiple top 3 placings, ended the season as the #1 Adult Amateur BN Rider in the U.S.
  • Anna Zweig Charette ended the season as the #10 Adult Amateur BN Rider in the U.S.
  • Christy's former preliminary-level eventer, White Stromboli, came out of retirement with new eventer, Maggie McAlister, in the irons. This pair had near faultless jump rounds all season, with only a single rail in five events and improved their dressage score by almost 20 points!
  • Laura McAlister made her eventing Debut and finished 6th in her first event at River Glen.
  • Megan Wadley & Zurich improved in all phases - taking home multiple top placings and improving their dressage score to sub-30 at the end of the season!
  • Ellie Toothaker joined us for Windermere Run with new horse (accomplished H/J but new to eventing) Ron Weasley, and finished on her dressage score!
  • Madeline & Merri completed their first rated event, taking home a win in the starter division!
  • Flight School completed multiple novice events on his dressage score and ended the season with a win in a competitive Open Novice division at Texas Rose - on a score of 24.1!
